Dr. Rockford G. Yapp is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology and has performed over 20,000 endoscopic procedures in his career. His training includes medical school at University of Nebraska Medical Center, with training at Cornell University, Cook County Hospital, Shiprock, New Mexico, and Narobi, Kenya. He completed his residency at Northwestern University in Chicago, then went to Yale University for his G.I. and Hepatology Fellowship. Dr. Yapp also earned his Masters in Public Health (M.P.H.) in medical research and was and worked as an attending at Yale.
During his medical career, Dr. Yapp has published over 30 medical articles and abstracts, including a 2009 publication in the New England Journal of Medicine. With over a 200 lectures and presentations dealing with digestive disorders. Dr. Yapp is one of the few physicians in DuPage County with advance training in ERCP, and been on advisory committees to help develop some the advance ERCP equipment commonly used today.
Dr. Yapp’s Experience
Dr. Yapp was one of the first physicians in Illinois to perform the newly approved ablation technique to remove pre-cancerous changes in the esophagus. Dr. Yapp has been principal investigator in numerous regional and national studies dealing with digestive diseases and has participated in several National Institute of Health (NIH) Consensus Conferences. He is a Clinical Associate at Northwestern University Division of Hepatology and is one of the first Gastroenterologist in Illinois to be honored by the American Gastroenterological Association as a AGA Fellow. He has also been honored by the American Liver Foundation, the Illinois State Medical Association, and the American Medical Association for his services. Because of his leadership in the medical community, Dr. Yapp has close working relationships with all the major Universities in the Chicago area. Dr. Yapp has numerous academic and leadership accomplishments.
Dr. Yapp’s primary focus remains communicating and understanding his patient’s needs to provide them with the best and most advanced treatments available for patients, and when it is needed, compassion and help with the challenges and difficulties that digestive diseases sometimes cause.
